Teachers need to be knowledgeable of what they are teaching to be effective teachers. This may sound obvious, but what is often missed is the level that teachers must know their content. To demonstrate knowledge of content and pedagogy, teachers need to know multiple ways to explain the same idea as all students learn differently, even though one student understands a method does not mean that all of the students will understand the same method. Teachers also need to be knowledgeable about their content to the point that they can answer any question that a student may ask.
In my classroom, I will demonstrate knowledge of content and pedagogy by being prepared for all of my lessons. As a future math teacher, I can be prepared for my lessons by knowing the answer to any problems that I will include in my lesson along with knowing several ways to solve each problem. With teaching math and science, it is inevitable that a student will at some point ask a question that I will not be able to answer on the spot, but what I can do is find out what the answer is and get back to the student. It's not the end of the world to not know the answer to a student's question, but it is important to find the answer to the question.
