It is obvious that teachers must ensure that their classrooms are safe, clear of any tripping hazards or other mechanisms of injury; however, classrooms should also be organized in a way that fosters learning. Organizing a classroom to benefit learning can involve anything from eliminating distractions to how the desks are set up.
In my classroom, I plan to organize the room in a way that benefits the learning of all students. I will do this by making sure that none of the desks are facing away from the board, this is something that I see in many classrooms and it bothers me. I will also organize the room so any students with disabilities are included in the class, this could be as simple as making sure that there is a clear path for a student in a wheelchair to move throughout the room. Many schools and teachers say that students with disabilities are included in the regular classroom, but what they mean is that these students are sitting in the back corner of the room because they are unable to move to the same parts of the room as the other students.
