Many teachers develop a certain style of teaching that they find to work well and stick to their ways for the rest of their career. This is a dangerous trap to fall into as there is always room for teachers to grow and develop professionally. This growth could be by growing in knowledge of content or growing by learning new and improved pedagogical skills. Over time, curriculum changes and it is important for teachers to keep up with these curriculum changes and have the content knowledge to be able to teach the new material. Along with changes in curriculum, the students in a teachers classroom will change from year to year and teachers need to improve their pedagogical skills to be able to work with and teach any student that will walk into the classroom.
In my classroom I will display professional growth and development by keeping the belief that there is always room for improvement. With this mindset, I will be able to take advice from other teachers. I also recognize that it is important to listen to teachers of all levels, teachers who have been in the field for many years have experience while new teachers often have the newest ideas of how teachers can improve old ideas.
