Spanish Tutor
I am currently employed as a Spanish tutor in the Language Learning Resource Center at Youngstown State University. My primary task during this is to assist other college students in learning Spanish. I normally tutor students in the first two level classes, but will occasionally work with higher level students.
This job is often difficult as I am still relatively new to Spanish, I only began studying in the summer of 2018 and have never had the opportunity to travel abroad. I decided to minor in Spanish knowing that I will most likely one day have Spanish speaking students in my classroom, and also because it gave me the opportunity to learn how to learn a second language. The reason that I decided to teach Spanish at YSU as a tutor is because I understood the struggle of learning a second language and because I wanted some experience not only teaching, but teaching outside of my comfort zone of Math and Science.
I have been employed as a Spanish Tutor since December of 2018.

Adventure Rec
As a sometimes stressed out college student, I have learned the need of something fun in the daily or weekly routine. In search of a group of friends on a university campus in Northeast Ohio, I knew it would be challenging to find a group with interests common to mine. I wanted a group of friends who I could call up and say let's go outside and do something. This lead to me Adventure Rec, part of the Rec Center at YSU, we are also known as the Rock Wall people.
At first, I decided to ease my way into this group by showing up to the rock wall between classes and climbing around a little bit. After a semester, I decided to try to become part of the team and try to get a job at the rock wall. I got hired and it ended up being more than just setting routes and belaying climbers. I got to introduce other stressed out students to climbing, I have had the opportunity to lead group trips such as a whitewater rafting trip, and I often work team buildings with kids of all ages.
While Adventure Rec has not given me a great deal of experience in the field of education specifically, it has taught me how to connect with people of all different backgrounds and I have had the opportunity to learn about outdoor safety.

Lifeguard at YMCA
I have been a lifeguard at the YMCA of Youngstown since May of 2014 and still work there on semester breaks. Throughout my time at the YMCA, I have had countless opportunities to learn and grow. I have learned the importance of dedication to one place. As lifeguarding is often viewed as a summer job for high school students and the fact that I have stayed past my time in high school, I have seen many lifeguards come and go. I have had the opportunity to mentor these younger lifeguards and encourage them along the way.
During my time at the YMCA, I have taken on a few leadership positions including lead guard, mentor guard, and open water triathlon guard.

- Lead guard - During the winter months when only the indoor pools are open, I would often take on the role of lead guard where my responsibilities include ensuring that all guards are where they need to be and all duties get done around the pool deck. I am also tasked with handling any situations that may arise with patrons.
- Mentor guard - When a new guard is hired, they are often sent to shadow myself for a few days to learn how to guard our pool specifically and learn what is not taught in lifeguard classes.
- Open Water guard - During the summer months, I am often recruited to be an open water triathlon guard where I lifeguard triathlons from a kayak. This has taught me how to communicate without being able to speak, how to work as a team without much communication, and how to keep up to 500 swimmers safe all at once in a body of water where you cannot see more than a foot down.
